Dhoni and team in top gear: VB
Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni seems to have found another dimension to his big-hitting prowess by repeatedly sending the balls outside the stadium to indicate the kind of form he is in, according to VB Chandrasekar, the cricketing manager of Chennai Super Kings.
In his blog, Chandrasekar referred to the couple of practice matches that the team played ahead of their opening IPL fixture against Deccan Chargers here on Sunday, stating that Dhoni's form with the bat was particularly heart-warming.
With a touch of humour so typical of Chandrasekar, he writes in his latest blog: "Up front, Dhoni's form has been dynamic and stunning. If I were to go by the number of balls he has hit out of the park, it is time we ordered for some fresh stock of Kookaburras!"
Apart from Dhoni's form, the team bonding is another factor to be considered in weighing Super Kings' prospects in the third edition of the IPL. With most players having been together in the previous two seasons, the sense of familiarity has helped them to come together as a unit, Chandrasekar writes.
The former India opener also speaks highly of coach Stephen Fleming's role and commitment to the team's cause, saying: "There is clarity of thought and vision, and given his vast experience as an international cricketer, besides being the captain of New Zealand, his inputs are worth their weight in gold."
Chandrasekar feels that the Super Kings team is buoyant and looking forward to playing its first game on home ground of Chepauk that is undergoing a major renovation work with new eastern stands nearing completion
